And what are your favorite features in Zwinktopia? Indeed, there are so many cool features and spots in Zwinktopia it's hard to make your mind. But if someone - say, a Zwinky named Snackypants - threatened to throw my Zwinky into the shark-infested waters just beyond the beach unless I chose a favorite spot, I'd have to say the Bus Stop.

In addition to its immensely convenient central location, the Bus Stop is the only place in all of Zwinktopia that seems to have an independent climate all its own. While things seem downright sunny and peaceful in the adjacent park, a threatening wind and lightning storm perpetually swirls at the Bus Stop - which clearly serves as a metaphor for the volatile and often unpredictable nature of public transportation in general.

Here's a bit of Bus Stop trivia for you: there was once a Smiley who was clinging for dear life to the Bus Stop pole - but the fierce winds swept him away. He was then intercepted by Chinese army aircraft somewhere over the Sea of Japan.

But don't worry. Your Zwinky is perfectly safe at the Bus Stop. No matter how hard the wind may blow, it won't even muss your hair - or blow that cool knit cap off your head. So you'll be free to chat with your fellow Zwinktopia travelers. And that's ultimately what makes hanging out at the Bus Stop so much fun.

Whenever a stranger approaches me at the Bus Stop, I often get asked what I'm doing there. My answer is simple: I'm waiting for the bus. Then he or she will say they didn't know there was a bus, and I'll become indignant. Why would there be a Bus Stop here if there wasn't a bus? And sure enough, my indignation often works. Perfect strangers will stay right there with me, and engage in the most enjoyable banter. Here's a snippet of a recent conversation - please note that names have been changed to protect the gullible:

random_zwinky: when's the bus coming?
smileyjoe: I don't know. But it was late yesterday.
random_zwinky: oh
smileyjoe: You better not stand in the road. You could get hit by a fire engine.
random_zwinky: really?
smileyjoe: Yeah. There was a huge fire over at the Caf yesterday, and a fire engine came roaring through and flattened some guy dressed in a fairy outfit.
random_zwinky: yeah right. you're nuts
smileyjoe: We'll see who's nuts when the bus gets here, pal.

And so on. Eventually, people catch on - and move on. Sometimes they even come back, in search of that late bus. They'll see me there, still waiting, call me a few choice names - and leave again.

Ultimately, though, as someone who is truly proud to have worked on bringing Zwinktopia to life, the reason I love the Bus Stop so much is because of what it represents. To me, it's a sign that Zwinky is on the move - and that this small slice of Zwinktopia is just the first glimpse of what promises to be a unique and ever-changing virtual world filled with endless possibilities.

Someday, folks, that bus is going to come. And when it does, I'm going to be right there waiting for it.

Zwinktopia features: countless outfits to express your vision!

Channeling my inner 60’s favorite secret agent/mojo photographer persona, I can tell you that Zwinktopia, the virtual world for Zwinkies, is the coolest scene for the hip, swinging bachelor. What other place gives you games and groovy chicks? Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

But let’s get back to the games, shall we? In Zwinktopia, you can submerge yourself and fight off evil doers including my fave: sharks with torpedoes. Test your word banter with "Alphapets" before you spring it on the ladies and, get this, play with your food in "Pizza Pitch." There's nothing like a little ricotta to rev up a romance, eh boys? Now here's the real happening part. When you win games you win cash called "Zbucks" that let you pick up a few fun items.

Speaking of items, let’s talk fashion. As a swinging photographer, I need countless outfits to express my vision. The super looks you can get and the combinations you can make in Zwinktopia are endless and they’re adding new threads all the time.

So come on. You don’t even have to board my personal jet to arrive at the greatest place on earth (virtual or otherwise). Just click on Enter Zwinktopia from the Zwinky icon in your browser and you’re transported there instantaneously. Yeah, baby!

Zwinktopia Features: This Beach Chair is REAL Huge!

Zwinktopia mapI love the Zwinktopia interactive map. It makes me feel like I'm a huge giant looking down on this tiny island city filled with Zwinkies happily going about their business. I imagine myself walking amongst them, grabbing some coffee in the Java Jolt, waving hello. (And I don't even drink coffee - that's how much the interactive map has won me over.)

And then... and then I get sad.

After all, if I was a huge giant I'd never be able to live in such a tiny world with all the happy Zwinkies. Surely, there's no place I could sit.

Zwinktopia beach chairAh, but wait! The beach chair. The huge, glorious beach chair. Now I'm no math major, but it seems to me that if you took the beach chair off the beach and brought it deeper into Zwinktopia's city limits, the chair would be about the height of The Caf. It could span the width of the Zwinktopia pool. And if you tossed it at the Colozeeum, it would leave one mean dent in the retractable dome roof.

Which is fantastic. (The size of the chair, not the dent in the Colozeeum. I don't have enough Zbucks to pay for the repairs.) A chair that size means giant me could live in Zwinktopia, right on the beach, staring at the mammoth shark fin swimming to and fro. (That shark must be the size of Sri Lanka.)

Yes, the huge beach chair is my favorite feature of Zwinktopia. And I'm sure I'm not alone.

Hanging out in Zwinktopia - guide to cool places.

Well, we're starting this Cool Places to Hangout in Zwinktopia Guide - check back regularly, and feel free to share with us your favorites places in Zwinktopia.

Kevin (from Buzz) writes: I don't know why, but I like hanging out in Zarcadia, the Zwinky arcade. Maybe it's the space-age walls, or the nostalgia of seeing all those machines lined up like the arcades of my youth.

Okay, that's a lie. I know exactly why I like it: during development, it was my job to make sure all the games were in working order. In other words, I got paid to play video games. And it was everything I've ever dreamt it could be, and more. I got to tell co-workers things like "Sorry I missed that meeting on expense reports, but I had to get the high score in Alphapets," and "Hey, could you grab me a Dr. Pepper? I don't want to ruin this SubZ hot streak I'm on." It was awesome.

In addition to Zarcadia giving me me dream job, I enjoy it because there are usually lots of talkative people hanging out there, which means I can always count on a good conversation or compare high scores.

In fact, I think I'm going to head off to Zarcadia now to give that Red Barista a run for her money.

Everyone is ignoring you at Zwinktopia? Here is a very handy "icebreaker" hint.

Keith at Buzz shares with us this Zwinktopia hint:

Whenever you're chatting with someone online, there's sometimes a point where you just want to throw something. You could type "/me throws a rock at snackypants" or something like that, but it doesn't have that much of an effect in a world like Zwinktopia.

That's where Zwinky sets itself apart...with Frisbees. By mousing over your Zwinky and clicking on the beach ball icon that appears to your right, you can select Frisbee from the action menu that appears. Then just click where you'd like to throw your frisbee, and off it goes!

Oh sure, maybe they're meant to provide hours of mindless fun by throwing them back and forth in the Colozeeum. But I think they serve a higher purpose, one that allows people to express their anger without resorting to name calling. There's nothing funnier than seeing a whole room of 20 chatters tossing frisbees at a Zwinky like "opengeo," for instance. He really hates when we do that.

The frisbees also serve as an icebreaker. Go into any chat room and if nobody's chatting or everyone is ignoring you, just start throwing frisbees and see what happens.

Zwinktopia - a new virtual world for young teens

IAC Consumer Applications and Portals (IAC CAP), a wholly owned business of IAC , today announced the launch of a virtual world for its 4.7 million active Zwinky users.

A Zwinky avatar is a virtual persona that users create as their online alter ego. Launched in summer 2006, Zwinky became an instantaneous viral success by allowing users to personally brand themselves at Zwinky.com and across blogs and social networks.

"Rather than build the virtual world first, we created Zwinky avatars for users to express themselves creatively and visually wherever they go online," said John Park, Executive Vice President and General Manager. "We then listened to our users to create the Zwinky Virtual World they wanted. With millions of registered Zwinky users, we will be one of the largest virtual worlds at launch."

The new virtual world, Zwinktopia, will provide Zwinkies a social community with 29 unique locations and dozens of games and activities. In Zwinktopia users can shop for the latest fashions, chat with friends, play games, participate in events, and hang out in their dorm. Each user will be able to earn Zbucks allowing his or her Zwinky to virtually shop at one of many boutiques for clothes, accessories, furniture and other products. Users have already put together more than 10 million outfits to avoid having to wear the same outfit twice.

"We are one of the fastest growing groups within IAC because of our ability to share highly personalized, relevant content such as Zwinkies, Webfetti, and Smiley Central with a ravenous, passionate audience," said Scott Garell, CEO IAC Consumer Applications and Portals. "Zwinktopia is a compelling environment for users to be whoever they want to be and interact with one another online."
